The SM-12A utilizes a high efficiency 12" low frequency speaker with a 3" voice coil. The large ferrite magnet structure and pole piece cooling provide high power handling and low power compression. The high frequency section makes use of a neodymium magnet compression driver with 1.5" exit and 3" titanium diaphragm. The compression driver is coupled to a narrow dispersion horn.
The SM-15A's LF section uses a high efficiency 15" speaker with a 3" voice coil. The HF section, as in the case of the SM-12A, utilizes a neodymium compression driver with 1.5" exit and 3" titanium diaphragm. The compression driver is again coupled to a wide dispersion horn. The multi-angle enclosure is of Wisa Birch plywood and is finished with a durable black paint. The loudspeaker components are protected by means of a steel grille with a fabric backing behind the grille. The fabric provides protection from dust and dirt, and is both acoustically transparent and flame retardant.
D.A.S. has also introduced the new Reference series of mid-size PA systems for use in a wide variety of applications, ranging from mobile systems to permanent installation. With six system configurations, the Reference series incorporates D.A.S.'s latest generation of lightweight neodymium components which, the company says, weigh 30-50% less than conventional units. The neodymium woofers feature the effective TAF cooling scheme and 4" EFW voice coils, providing higher power handling and reduced power compression. The Reference models are manufactured using Wisa birch plywood, and are coated with a durable black paint finish, which protects the cabinets. Flying points are included on all of the Reference models including subwoofers for safe and simple rigging, while a standard pole-mount is included on the smaller models.
D.A.S. Audio products are available in the UK from Sennheiser UK.
