The task of keeping spirits up in ice cold temperatures fell to the commentator Wolfgang Hostmann partnered by DJ 'Mike'. The pair acquitted themselves with flying colours, helped by the quality of the sound reinforcement, for which the Weilheim-based specialists from TC-Showtechnik were responsible for the fifth year in succession. Once again, the centrepiece of the system was formed by a compact yet powerful XLD line array from Electro-Voice.
"After optimising and adding to the system several times, we arrived at the ideal set-up for this event, which we don't propose now to change," states Martin Schulze, who with Stefan Rehthaler shares the management of the Bavarian rental company. "We are fortified in this resolution by the outstanding feedback we received once again this year regarding the sound."
As was the case last year, the main array comprised 16 EV XLD 218 array elements flown at a height of 14m from a sound reinforcement tower, with eight Dynacord V17 enclosures (flown) and six EV X-Subs (stacked) providing added support in the low frequency range. To provide even coverage throughout the spectator area, TC-Showtechnik deployed eight additional EV XLD systems on a delay line.
The system was driven from an amp rack loaded with two EV CPS 4.10 power amplifiers and one EV CPS 8.5. "We purchased the rack over a year ago," says Schulze, "and we are extremely satisfied. It offers masses of power and yet is only six rack units high. Moreover, it is extremely versatile, being suitable not only for concerts, but also - thanks to its durability - for outdoor productions."
