The town of Westerland, where the event takes place, routinely experiences strong onshore winds and lots of choppy waves; ideal for windsurfing but not so great for a sound crew trying to create enough SPLs and intelligibility for daily crowds of around 25,000. The system also needed to be flexible enough to provide sound reinforcement for recorded music, DJs, live commentary and announcement, and interviews.
Ambion is one of Europe's longest-standing Nexo clients, having owned the brand for more than two decades. The company has provided systems and technical services for outdoor sporting events since the mid nineties, and has always chosen Nexo. "As a longtime Nexo user, we know all about the reliability of its products," says Stefan Puslat, the company's business liaison manager. "Nexo offers the perfect all round tools for the sporting events we put on. The system we provided for the 2013 World Cup Sylt rose to the challenges we faced admirably."
Fourteen Nexo PS15-R2 high powered speakers were used indoors, for the tents and mobile venues. Outdoors, 52x Nexo PS10-R2s, together with 12 x PS8s and four RS15 bass units, covered the beachfront area. The entire system was powered by NXAMPS.
"We knew that we would be able to create a perfect sound without being noisy, even under the very specific conditions that prevailed," says Puslat. "Once again, Nexo didn't let us down."
