Liechtenstein - Neutrik, specialist in the development and manufacture of professional audio and video connectors, has introduced its latest connector product - OpticalCon - a solid and dust-protected fibre optic connector system with a robust metal housing, push-pull locking mechanism, automatic sealing covers and excellent cable retention.

Responding to the increasing digitalization of the pro audio and entertainment industry in recent years, Neutrik has developed the optical connector system to meet the high demands of reliability and durability in the pro audio market. The system is based on a standardized optical LC-Duplex connector, and the rugged metal housing protects the unit under rough conditions. The approved push-pull mechanism enables simple and quick locking and unlocking and guarantees a secure connection even after a large number of mating cycles, say the company.

Another unique feature is the automatic sealing shutter with silicone gaskets to protect the optical fibre against dust and dirt whilst unconnected. In the process of connecting, the shutter will be opened only after the connectors are nested together, preparing the optical fibre system for physical contact. When disconnecting, the cover closes before the connectors are separated, ensuring it is protected against dust and dirt.

The chassis connector serves as "feed through" and guarantees a simple installation simply by connecting a conventional LC-Duplex connector on the rear. For cost-effective permanent connections (patch cable for example), the front may be connected with an LC-connector. For mobile applications in studios or outdoors, Neutrik offers the rugged OpticalCon cable connection assembled onto a choice of three different mobile field cables. For mere fibre optic applications a 2-pole field cable in multi-mode or single-mode is available.

A special SMPTE version optimized for broadcast purposes offers a separate ground contact. All cables have built-in Kevlar fibres which provide optimal cable retention, and the assembled cables are available in a great number of lengths, with or without cable drum, say Neutrik.
