UK - London-based theatre sound specialist Orbital has been awarded the sound supply contract by Dutch producers Stardust BV for their epic-scale new musical, Rembrandt.

Staged in The Netherlands' internationally renowned Royal Carre Theatre, Stardust's Rembrandt celebrates the 400th anniversary of the great painter. Orbital's team, headed by Drew Mollison, collaborated with sound designer Jeroen ten Brinke from the early planning stages to ensure that the specified Alcons system met his exact requirements.

Jeroen Brinke commented: "Working to a tight three-week pre-production phase, the Orbital team were fantastic. Streamlining operations on site, their practical advice and 24/7 technical support team sets a precedent. It's great working with them. Their level of service and support through the production process and on-going has been unparalleled."

Featuring an Alcons Audio LX16 pro ribbon line array system, which combined Alcons LR16 modules, LR16B line array bass cabinets and ALC 2kW amplification and processing, the system offers an exceptionally flexible and reliable solution, say Orbital. Managing director Chris Headlam added: "We're really pleased to be working with Jeroen and his team. There's a great deal of experience there and along with Jeroen we're delighted with the outstanding result. The Alcons LR16s have proved very successful and will prove an important addition to our growing inventory of Alcons products."

The system also used over 76 channels of Cadac J-Type console and some 40 ways of Sennheiser radio microphone. Jeroen chose a selection of Neumann, Sennheiser and Shure microphones for use on the orchestra and also utilised many omni-directional Accusound mics. This offered a wonderfully detailed and rich orchestral and vocal mix that augmented the production values.

Alcons Audio's MD, Tom Back, commented: "It's great to have been given the possibility to team-up with these leading people in the theater sound business. We already worked with Orbital and Jeroen separately on different projects, but joining for the Rembrandt production, is just great, especially as it embraces the appreciation of our pro-ribbon technology for speech-intelligibility, throw and gain-before-feedback, for the largest Dutch musical production ever.
