The course is free of charge, offering students the opportunity to benefit from a wide cross-section of technical disciplines, including communications, networking, loudspeaker system set-up and control, and mixing practices.
The course will be led by Orbital's training manager, Theo Holloway, who explained the rationale behind the autumn training programme, "The popularity of our annual courses underlines the appetite among students to learn a set of skills that can help them with a practical technical career in theatre sound. At Orbital Sound, we have a vested interest in seeing new generations of well-qualified theatre sound technicians coming up through the ranks, and are committed to encouraging the best working practices.
"Over the past eight years, we have invested considerable time and energy in developing training courses that deliver the right combination of theory and practical skills, catering for a broad variety of applications, skill levels and interests. This latest course is all about helping students to gain confidence in using the technology for real. The emphasis is on hands-on training that will familiarise them with the latest systems and techniques, and we are receiving considerable support from d&b audiotechnik, Yamaha and HME with this course."
The programme includes an in-depth focus on the use, application and integration of radio and wired communication systems and the theory and application of digital mixing consoles.
