The switch on tied in with the world premiere of Disney's new 3D adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, timings were carefully co-ordinated to give the crowds the "wow" factor and for the first time ever included a joint switch on with Regent Street and Leicester Square (not lit by Piggott's).
Star of A Christmas Carol, Jim Carrey turned on the lights at Oxford Circus with British celebrities Colin Firth turning on the Regent Street lights and Bob Hopkins finishing off the proceedings at Leicester Square.
The win follows Piggott's long standing association with Oxford Street as the company first lit the street in 1950 for the Christmas season, and has continued to do so only missing one installation over a period of 59 years.
Indeed, Piggott's fought off stiff competition to win the contract. MD of Piggott's Nick McLaren says: "We are thrilled to have been awarded the contract. I believe our creative flair and long established outdoor lighting expertise proved to be the winning ingredient."
