Paul Weller in performance at the Forestry Commission's 'Forest Tours'.
UK - Pearce Hire showcased a new range of lighting equipment at this year's Forestry Commission's 'Forest Tours' across the UK. The Forestry Commission's annual summer tour of unique forest locations began in 2001 and has grown year on year, adding new sites and more dates. This year, artists include Paul Weller, Status Quo, the Sugababes and Jools Holland: on completion at the end of July, the tour will cover five weekends at six different Forestry sites. Despite the unfortunate cancellations by Bryan Ferry due to a throat infection, the tour has been thus far successful, playing to sell-out crowds.

For the fourth consecutive year, Pearce Hire has supplied power and lighting to the run of shows, this year investing in £85,000 worth of new lighting equipment and flightcases for the tour. The new equipment strengthened Pearce Hire's inventory and allowed the team to provide the various lighting designers more versatility, producing a series of great looking shows.

The new lighting equipment has been bought in line with the most common requests of leading lighting designers and includes MAC 550s and MAC 600s, Source Four profiles, Cirro Strata CS6 hazers, DMX fans, two Avolites Pearl 2004 consoles, 2.5 km of DMX cabling and 2.5km of mains cabling. Pearce Hire's owner, Shaun Pearce, explained: "The new range of equipment is a step forward for the company, delivering our client base with better creative options and allowing Pearce Hire to quote for more varied events."

The tour incorporated the new equipment across the Forestry Tour sites, designing and modifying each one according to the lighting designers' requests. Patrick Murray, lighting designer for Paul Weller, welcomed the improved choice of equipment at Sherwood Forest: "The rig is smaller than that used on a full production, as would be expected at an outdoor gig, so it needs to be versatile for all the different types of music played, and this new equipment has delivered that."

The Pearce Hire team also designed a power supply for each of the sites, installing a synchronized pair of 250kVA generators to produce enough power to supply the stage for sound and lighting, the backstage catering area and front-of-house. In addition, a 100kVA generator supplied the range of bars around the site, and power was supplied to the car parks ensuring they were fully lit across the event.
