UK - Patrick Jordan, managing director of Mojo Barriers, has received an Honorary Doctorate, presented at a degree ceremony at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (BCUC) in recognition for his significant contribution to research into crowd safety at live events.

Mojo Barriers has worked closely on a research project with a team headed by Professor Chris Kemp, Dean of the Faculty for Leisure and Tourism at BCUC, over recent years. Mojo Barriers developed their Barrier Load Monitor System (BLMS) in 2004 to measure the pressures exerted on Mojo Aluminium stage barriers, and measurements have since been taken at over fifty festivals and concerts in conjunction with crowd studies for analysis.

Canada - Pyrotek has welcomed back Gordon Hyndford as project director after a long absence from the company. Hyndford started Pyrotek in 1981 with current owner, Doug Adams, but left the company to explore life on the road. He soon found success touring with rock and roll acts such as The Rolling Stones, Prince, Bon Jovi, and Janet Jackson as well as working with corporate shows like the Pope, American Standard and many others.

Hyndford says: "The knowledge I have gained in lighting, pyro, scaffolding, temporary power, and automation control over the last 23 years has been invaluable and rewarding. However, at some point you have to get off the road. What better place to go then back to where it all started."

Jackson joined the company in 2004 as area manager of export sales for the Far East and Australasia, recently expanding this area to include Middle East. Hinds began his career in the pro audio industry with Turbosound, where he spent seven years before leaving to run a tour sound company.
