USA - Neutrik collected a Pick Hit Award 2005 for its new OpticalCon product, presented at InfoComm in Las Vegas (8 to 10 June). Industry insiders - ranging from end-users to consultants and journalists - who visited exhibitors' booths anonymously during the show - selected the winners. The Pick Hit recipients need to be renowned for offering a wide range of products standing for the application of leading-edge technology and/or providing eminently practical solutions to today's system integration challenges. "It was difficult to come up with only 14 products out of all the contenders, but it's exciting to see such a good cross section of technologically innovative products that either provides extremely well thought-out solutions, represents the latest advancements in a particular technology, or both," the jury said.

OpticalCon is a ruggedized and dirt protected fibre optic connection system based on a standardized optical LC-Duplex connection, but eliminates its weakness and guarantees a safe and robust connection, say Neutrik. Because of the compatibility with conventional LC connectors, the system offers the choice of using a cost-effective LC connector as a permanent connection (e.g. patch cable) or Neutrik' s rugged OpticalCon for mobile applications. A special SMPTE version has been optimized for broadcast applications and offers an additional ground-shell contact. The cable connector is currently available at a choice of three types of mobile field cables. Their variations (Multimode, Singlemode, APC) can be offered in any length, say the company.
