The 16ft long DJ booth is raised above the dance floor and includes Pioneer's DVJ-X1 DVD decks, two industry standard CDJ-1000 MK2 CD turntables, an EFX-1000 effector and a DJM-1000 mixer. Each element in the chain is linked by a digital connection to deliver the highest audio quality, say Pioneer.
The CDJ-1000 MK2s will be used as the primary play out system while the DVJ-X1s provide the platform for the club's VJs to manipulate visual content from a DVD, with the mixed images projected onto two large screens that run the length of the DJ booth. The new EFX-1000 offers a highly flexible tool for DJs to manipulate the sound of a track with a combination of filters, phasers, echoes, delays and many more. It uses 24-bit technology, which combined with the product's unique digital 'EFX link' to the DJM-1000 means the effects sound clean and ensure no 'clipping' or distortion to the club's top of the range Cerwin Vega sound system which includes six double 18" bass bins below the DJ booth.
Says Davidson: "The digital technology adds a new element to DJing - when Lawler played with the EFX he bought along, it was like watching a guy work the ivories of a piano; it was just fantastic. We subsequently had a demo of the complete digital chain from Pioneer and we were just blown away. We invested in the system, removing a brand new mixer we'd just purchased, with Pioneer helping us install and optimise performance based on our acoustics. There's no crackle or hiss just pure acuity - even with our sound system which is hugely powerful. It's a fantastic environment to perform that attracts the top guys and much of that is down to the sound system. The future of DJ technology is definitely digital."
