Once in Miami, Tiësto used the DJM-800 MIDI assignable digital mixer alongside four new Pioneer CDJ-1000Mk3 decks. Performing at two events held at the intimate Mansion club - including a special album launch party for his new In Search Of Sunrise 5 mix compilation, titled Los Angeles. This landmark mix was released via Black Hole Recordings on 27 April and to support its release Tiësto embarked on a three-week-long tour of Asia. In May he begins his tour of North America and will hit the Netherlands and the UK in June, when he plays at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam and completes two dates at London's Carling Academy Brixton.
"The DJM-800's sound colour effects definitely add something extra to the mix," said Tiësto. "It's fantastic how you can create your own new melodies. I am becoming more familiar with the harmonic effect and people have reacted well as I have worked basslines with the sweep filters. I also like the trans beat effect and how that can make your music 'stutter', something that I find works especially well in the breaks."
Tiësto also plans to use the DJM-800 for his forthcoming BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and will soon be using it to control other elements of his live shows - parts that are normally out of a DJ's reach. "We are working with a company to develop DVD-video discs containing idents for the show's effects, such as fireworks, lighting and so on," he explained. "Using these DVDs and the DVJ-X1 linked to the DJM-800, I will then be able to control more of the overall performance from the DJ booth."
