UK - A special networking opportunity is offered by the combination of the Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conference and the ABTT Theatre Show to be held in London from 13-17 June. This international conference focuses on the business of planning, building and equipping theatres and other venues for the performing arts and is held only every four years. Attracting specialists from all over the world it engenders communication between architectural, acoustic, engineering and technological disciplines and is extremely well supported by the manufacturers and suppliers to these industries. The three-day conference in the Central Hall Westminster is followed by two days of the ABTT Theatre Show exhibition at the Royal Horticultural Halls in nearby Victoria.

Led by Stage Technologies, many other important firms sponsor this event because it brings together such a wide range of people ' planners, purchasers and practitioners. In addition to stage engineering companies, such as Waagner-Biro, Unusual Rigging, Prolyte and SBS Bühnentechnik, specialist firms Gala Systems, Gerriets, Triple-E, HOAC and a collaboration of Hoist UK, JR Clancy and Niscon Systems also support the event. In all a total of 40 firms and organisations who provide services or products to the entertainment industry fund the bulk of the Conference and its associated social events. Many of these firms are also exhibitors at the ABTT Theatre Show as well as members of its Industry Supporters Group, demonstrating their commitment to the performing arts.

An important function is the dinner cruise down the River Thames on the Sunday evening for which ETC, Northern Light and Serapid will together 'pick up the tab' for the food and beverage. Consultants Buro Happold, Theatre Projects, Arup, Carr & Angier, Charcoalblue, Marshall Day, Theateradvies and Theatreplan feature as sponsors as well as providing a number of the speakers and chairpersons.

The End-of-Conference Party on Tuesday evening provides another networking opportunity with J&C Joel and Unusual Rigging providing trips for some of the winning delegates on the London Eye. Two firms are making a major contribution in terms of supplying equipment for the venue: Steeldeck have undertaken the creation of the large 400 seat debating chamber, and Stage Electrics are providing the extensive audio-visual facilities in each of the three breakout spaces.
