UK - Friday 15th March saw the second instalment of the PLASA Golf Day charity event at the Drift Golf Club in Surrey. Following on from the success of last year's competition, the fundraiser was held to raise money for Light Relief - a charity established by and for those working in the entertainment industry who are experiencing times of difficulty and extreme hardship. The event was organised by PLASA with assistance from Delta Sound and White Light. The event raised a praiseworthy £4000 for the charity from a combination of entry fees donated by the players and from each of the competing companies who sponsored specific holes along the course.

This year's event saw 13 teams from across the live production and events industry battle it out for the top spot, and perhaps more importantly, to get their hands on those all-important bragging rights over their fellow teams. Representing the industry were teams from White Light, Delta Sound, Sound By Design, PLASA, ATG, Medialease, Autograph, XL Video, Martin Professional, Meyer Sound, and Crewsaders who each took to the fairway to go 18 holes against the event industry's answer to Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

It may not have entered a team, but the British weather certainly played its part, lashing the course with icy wind and buckets of rain, leaving the players soaked to the bone but smiling nonetheless. As the players squelched into the clubhouse at the end of the game, it was down to Lee Dennison of Delta Sound to deliver those all-important scores. This year's champions were crewing company, Crewsaders, who were awarded first prize, narrowly beating runners up for the second year, Meyer Sound, who, unlike last year, managed to refrain from practicing on the course two and a half hours before Tee-off. White Light sailed (literally with the weather) into third place, rounding off a hugely enjoyable competition.

It was a very successful day for the Crewsaders team who were not only named victors, but also took home the Sportsmanship Award after it was revealed that the 4 iron which had been found bent double, lying on the fairway of the 8th hole belonged to Crewsader, Calum McConnachie. Calum was reunited with his 'favourite' club which will undoubtedly receive pride of place at the Crewsaders HQ. A further notable prize winner was White Light Captain, Bryan Raven who, despite being a vital cog in organising the charity event, managed to lose his mobile phone on the very first hole. Luckily, it was spotted by PLASA's captain Matthew Griffiths who awarded it back to Bryan alongside his subsequent award for 'Arse of the Day.'

Commenting on the event, Bryan stated, "It was great to see all areas of the industry join in and even more pleasing was the fact that the sound companies didn't dominate the leader board this time".

Delta Sound's Lee Dennison reported, "As with all things related to this industry, lighting came 3rd, sound came 2nd but typically supporting these disciplines all the way, a crewing company came first!! A good day had by all, and good to see some old faces returning and new faces joining."
