Ireland - Following an investment of nearly €5 million, the Asian-themed Mantra Garden Bar & Club has opened in Maynooth, Co. Kildare - introducing a new concept to the university town, situated just 30 minutes from Dublin.

Sound and lighting installation specialists Audiotek were tasked with equipping the technical infrastructure, and proprietor Frank Murray again turned to PR Lighting's catalogue as his primary source.

In the upstairs Mantra nightclub, which opens at the weekends until 2am, he has used eight of PR Lighting's Solo 250 moving heads on a circular truss that surrounds an LED centrepiece. The Solo 250's are expected to punch their weight as they are up against lasers, scanners and an ever changing LED peripheral landscape.

Murray comments: "I must have used these in over 50 venues now. I use them everywhere as the colour is consistent and for an entry level product they perform way above their class, rock solid and flicker free. In other words they deliver more bang for the buck and they are exceptionally reliable."

He has complemented these with four PR Lighting Orland scanners which are also run off a Light Jockey controller, while downstairs in Harveys Bar he has specified eight PR Lighting Pilot 150s as the main dancefloor effect, with eight scenes and eight programmes stored in a PR Lighting PK60 memory controller. All the PR Lighting FX were supplied by distributors, MilTec (UK).

Audiotek were drafted having worked closely on other projects with main contractors, The Deluxe Group of Portadown - but Frank Murray says that the operators were also familiar with the standard of their work.

The development is a triumph for Waterford-based operators, the Kavanagh Group (Darryl and Chris Kavanagh), who have completely transformed the former Leinster Arms in the town centre.

They have exported the Harveys brand from Waterford, and now have a combined twin-floor capacity in Maynooth of around 2,200 over 8,000sq ft. This includes their Oriental Gardens where patrons can eat and drink in an environment filled with exotic plants, waterfalls, statues and gazebos.

General manager Christy Leonard said: "We are delighted with the way in which trading has begun and we are pulling from a wide catchment, with a population of 70,000 to draw on in North Kildare."

He said the kinetic dancefloor lighting was a real feature. "We are very happy with the lighting system which creates genuine atmosphere on the dancefloor."

If the opportunity presents itself the Kavanagh Group will look to roll out both the Mantra and Harveys brands.
