All Events Lighting Systems has been working with the promoters of The Festival for the past three years but this year the concept (and the name) changed - and thus they found themselves working with the new format for the first time.
"The promoters wanted a new look to coincide with the change of concept and knew that lighting would was the answer," says the company's owner, Shival Maharaj (who is also the principle LD). "They asked us to prepare a lighting design and offered us the job on the strength of this; we are now the official lighting provider for this event."
For the show, Shival used PR Lighting's Pilot 575 Spot and Pilot 575 Wash moving heads, along with architectural favourite, Century Color 2500L washlights, and also the company's Marveon LED washes as the major lighting effects.
"We ran two Century Washes up front for crowd lighting and colour changing," he explained. "The 20 LEDs were fixed along the middle and back of the rig for effect purposes and stage colour setting. The 22 moving heads were strategically positioned at various points for maximum output."
The event, which took place at Skinner Park - in Trinidad's second largest city of San Fernando - was attended by at least 12,000 people. At the same time some 1500 attended the much smaller Arabian Nights, which was being held for the first time in Pier 1 to the west of the island, and featured a scaled-down version of the PR Lighting grid.
