Mexico - Mexico City's famous El Zócalo (Plaza of the Constitution) was lit up for 15 days between 14-21 November as YO Mexico formed part of celebrations marking the centenary of the beginning of the country's revolution and the Bicentennial of its independence.

This 75-minute-long nightly multimedia spectacular featured 86 high-powered XLED 590 heads from PR Lighting over the three big stages (and catwalk) as more than 300 artists performed through five acts, depicting Mexico's colourful history. This showed the country's cultural wealth and moments that shaped the nation through music, dance, vocals, pyrotechnics, lighting and image projection.

This was one of several events that have taken place in the famous plaza recently, but Sebastian Corkidi of Simply Professional - who again provided all the PR Lighting effects, stated, "This was both bigger and better than the previous spectacular at El Zócalo in mid-September."

Marseilles-based lighting designer Bruno Corsini, requisitioned the XLED 590 washlights, realising that he would achieve a massive light output with minimal energy consumption.

Using Osram's Diamond Dragon LED, each XLED head contains 90 high power 5W LEDs (30 x Red, 30 x Green, 30 x Blue).

While the XLED 590s were flooding the vast square with light, for the first time ever El Zócalo presented a 270° projection of video images onto the facades of the buildings surrounding the Plaza of the Constitution - the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Palace and Federal District Government. Each façade spanned a projection area of 4,500sq.m.

In the three different locations were the three stages where the musicians and dancers performed and the lighting and images were able to interact with these facades, in what proved to be a highly creative show.

It certainly proved popular with the crowds, as around 90,000 people turned up nightly to witness each of the 15 presentations.
