The spectacular opening ceremony at the 16th Asian Games
China - During November, Haixinsa Island, Guangzhou, played host to two spectacular events - the opening and closing ceremonies for the 16th Asian Games.

PR Lighting was entrusted with the responsibility of presenting the festival of lighting which illuminated the event.

During the preparation of the Asian Games, General Director Weiya Chen stated that, "The ceremonies should not only be elegant, creative and unique, but also be multi-dimensional, and provide an all-encompassing festival of artistry and culture." And professional lighting effects were the critical factor in realising this ambition.

"Light is the soul of the stage. Without lighting, the stage will have no vitality or vigour. The PR Lighting moving heads contributed enormously to the high impact," said Xiaolan Sha, general lighting designer for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, who was also in charge of the 16th Asian Games.

Operations director Haoyang Jiang also praised the brilliance and high impact of the lighting effects. "Having cooperated with PR Lighting at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games we know we could trust in their quality, technology and service - and it was an easy decision to choose them as the major supplier again this time."

The opening ceremony lasted one hour 40 minutes and the closing ceremony ten minutes longer. More than 400 XL1200 Framing fixtures were deployed, along with 200 XL1500 Framing. Meanwhile, 150 XL1200 Wash were spread around the huge stage, with an additional 100 XL1200 Wash added to the top of the audience seating - just before the start of the Opening ceremony.
