China - PRG has chosen Barco's video and lighting equipment for their installations at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. The company was responsible for delivery and installation of the audiovisual technology in the Belgo-European pavilion, the United Arab Emirates pavilion and the opening ceremony. To bring the designs to life, PRG used Barco's LED, lighting and projection technology.

The most important inspiration for the designers of the Belgo-European Pavilion was the image of a neuron. This image, the 'Brain Cell', represents the central position of Belgium in the heart of Europe and showcases the great cultural diversity present in all major cities of Belgium. To enhance this overwhelming image of Belgium, PRG chose Barco's outdoor black LED displays, the TF-16BK.

The entrance features one 30sq.m screen, integrated in the glass facade, showing a combination of video clips and information sequences. In the garden of the pavilion, a three sided totem contains three 5sq.m screens displaying messages regarding ongoing activities and logos of the Belgian partners for this Expo. In addition, the European area features seven Barco NW-12 projectors projecting on two panoramic screens.

"The black outdoor LED display TF-16BK offers the best possible contrast combined with the highest brightness," comments Eric Théry from PRG. "It is the perfect fit for this setup. For the European area, we decided to use the NW-12 because our experience has taught us that it is the best choice for panoramic screens."

The United Arab Emirates pavilion is a large golden sand dune inspired by the country's desert land. It explains to visitors how the people have created life in the desert and have learned from their forefathers how to survive in a harsh environment. The pavilion contains five FLM HD20 projectors and six DML-1200 digital lights projecting on one big screen. Simon Kaiser and Hans Cromheecke from PRG comment, "The DML-1200 is an exclusive product, it is a moving digital luminaire that can be used as a high quality video projector and super bright moving light and was ideal for the design in this pavilion."

Next to this, PRG provided eight FLM R20+ projectors for the opening ceremony. The event featured an outdoor part with fireworks, lasers, and dancing fountains combined with a performance by singers and dancers. The projectors were installed on two boats and projected on water curtains. "The FLM R20+ projectors are very powerful and have proven to be extremely reliable, exactly what we need for such a high profile event like the Shanghai World Expo 2010 opening ceremony," Laurent Boillot and Yves Winand conclude.
