The 2010 event took place in the magnificent surroundings of Leeds Town Hall, which for the duration of the festival was turned into a huge multi-media location with an enormous screen and a sophisticated immersive audio infrastructure.
Pro Audio Systems designed, installed and operated a bespoke sound system for the event comprising mainly Meyer Sound equipment. Providing seamless coverage of the large auditorium required the creation of 11 separate audio zones, programmed and independently controlled using Meyer Sound's SIM audio analyser system and Galileo processors.
An Extron SSP-7.1 surround processor interfaced six separate playback media with the system via a Yamaha LS-9 digital console. A cardioids sub-bass arrangement was successfully deployed behind the screen which provided effective control of low-frequencies throughout the room.
Leeds film manager and director of the festival Chris Fell said, "Pro Audio Systems made a key contribution to the success of the 24th Leeds International Film Festival that took place in November 2010. Our main 1000-capacity venue, Leeds Town Hall, required expert installation of a major sound system for the projection of cinema on a grand scale.
"The Pro Audio Systems team installed digital surround sound in the venue's stalls and balcony levels, and providing for all kinds of cinema projection formats, including 35mm and HDCam. The results exceeded our expectations, and the Town Hall quickly became the favourite venue of the Film Festival audience."
