France - The audio industry now has a programme to ensure the proper functionality of 100 Mb or Gigabit Ethernet components when designing, installing or operating an EtherSound network. End users, consultants, contractors, system technicians, etc. will be able to look for the EtherSound Tested logo on manufacturers' packing, product literature and websites, or to visit the EtherSound website for a list of EtherSound Tested Ethernet components.

EtherSound is an Ethernet-compliant standard for distribution of PCM digital audio: EtherSound networks are implemented using third-party Ethernet components such as Category 5e or 6 cables, fibre optic cables, connectors, switches and media converters. The EtherSound Tested programme will verify the performance of these and other Ethernet components.

"We've established this programme at the request of two groups," explains Ji

USA - The exclusive 2-channel Oceana is the newest Chauvet DMX effect, suited for large venues and long nights. Generously outfitted with 40 light and dark blue lenses, Oceana projects a multitude of azure rays that create a wave-like pattern, thanks to an exclusive S-shaped, 800-watt linear lamp rotating on a horizontal axis. Its wavy patterns are a refreshing addition to any club, lounge or DJ lighting system.

One DMX channel controls the speed of the bulb's rotation. The second DMX channel controls black out and strobe-like effects. In the absence of DMX signal, Oceana responds to sound with a dynamic combination of beam rotation and strobing. Multiple units can be linked and synchronized. The voltage is switchable between 110V and 230V.

The Netherlands - Sound Projects have developed the Dreamline, a prefab line array housing. Initially meant for the fixed installation market, but soon also available as a plug-and-play touring system.

Each Dreamline is individually configured by Sound Projects to match the location parameters such as chair plan, the shape of the auditorium and the desired acoustic pressure. This is affected by 12 completely adjustable full-range line source modules, based on the patented Sound Projects' Wave shape transformer. Normally 12 single loudspeaker systems would be necessary. Moreover, each unique Dreamline is self-powered and equipped with multiple Sound Projects' Micro-Amp modules with an integrated speakermanagement system fixed in an optimum pre-set. This combination ensures that the system can be taken down as well as rigged up easily by practically anyone, even with hardly any te

Canada - Gone are the days of static objects. On March 1, the launch of WYSIWYG Production Design Suite Release 16 will breathe life into productions by giving users the ability to pre-visualize shows with moving scenery! Objects are simply attached to movement axes (either linear or rotational) and moved along them with the moving scenery tool.

For even greater realism, designers can patch control of the movement axes (and their attached objects) and use a console device or a motion control system to manage the progress of the objects along the axes.

Some other innovative developments include a new camera control bar and the ability to easily import floor plans. In addition, overall stability has been improved and several performance features have been introduced.

WYSIWYG was just used for the opening ceremonies of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, is being used today t

USA - Production Resource Group (PRG) provided 600 of its new AutoPar wash luminaires to the North American International Auto Show last month. Designer Howard Werner of Lightswitch New York needed a specialty fixture for trade show exhibits and PRG responded. "I was looking for an automated fixture to serve the needs of auto show clients. The fixture needed to have a daylight color temperature with a lens that rotated but it didn't need a lot of other bells and whistles," explains Werner. The result was PRG's AutoPar, which debuted at LDI.

The AutoPar is a compact, automated fixture with a 700-watt arc lamp that features a fully DMX-programmable, rotating lens assembly. "The AutoPar is much smaller and lighter than a standard moving light," notes PRG vice-chairman and chief technology officer Rusty Brutsché. "It provides great value to clients by

UK - Adamson introduces the next generation of its proprietary venue design software, the Y-Axis Shooter 2.5.5. UK - Theatre sound specialist Orbital has announced a new addition to the market of software-based sound playback and control systems. The programme has been designed help automate and perfect not only theatrical shows but live events in general, and is already in use on the Little Britain and Mighty Boosh national tours.

The key difference with CSC to other systems is the use of a modular workspace, and a much more "hands on" approach to constructing a show. Designs are constructed around "real" objects - wave playback is similar to using traditional MiniDisc machines and CD players, and levels can all be changed at the touch of a button.

CSC presents the designer with tools to create a show, with whatever equipment they desire to use. Full MIDI support is provided, including a standard MIDI command module, a Show Control Module (MSC, MMC and
