China - Traxon Technologies has introduced the Shield AC XB lighting system, designed for wall washing and grazing applications where fixtures are located far from the control area, or where the structural construction is complicated and extensive cabling or mounting is limited.

Powered by line voltage, the Shield AC XB system can run up to 300m away from the nearest power source. It eliminates the need for separate driver units and is suited for large scale architectural installations, such as bridges and high-rise buildings, as it allows more flexible placement of fixtures in outdoor applications, says the company.

Based on the standard daisy-chain topology and using one cable for power and data, the Shield AC XB system simplifies wiring and helps save installation time and costs. The field-installable connectors provide wiring flexibility, allowing installers to optimize ca

USA - At NAMM, Audio-Technica introduced the ATW-CHG2 Two-Bay Recharging Station for its new 2000 Series wireless transmitters. This unit charges ATW-T220a handheld transmitters and/or ATW-T210a UniPak transmitters (in any combination). Batteries are charged within the transmitters.

The ATW-CHG2 has many protective features to preserve the integrity of the transmitters. A built-in safety feature monitors cell voltage and automatically turns off the unit if problems are detected. The unit will also automatically shut off if damaged or alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries are installed. Maintenance charging prevents battery self-discharge until the transmitter is removed from the charger. Two AA 2000 mAh Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are included.

Other recent enhancements to the 2000 Series include the addition of a second operating frequency band for more flexibility and incre

USA - ETC has released an update to its Eos family of lighting control desks, providing improved and additional functionality for Eos, Ion and Element users.

The major change for Eos and Ion is a new Virtual Media Server (sometimes referred to as "pixel bit mapping") which allows the creation of grids of fixtures, to which static and animated images can be applied, with a variety of manipulation tools. Similar to a media server, images can be created or imported by the user. A second download - Eos Family Pixel Mapping Installer - allows users to add media content to the console for use with the Virtual Media Server.

For all three desks, 'shielded submasters' allows a priority to be assigned to a submaster - a "shield." When a submaster is shielded, the parameters assigned to that submaster are excluded from any live control other than the submaster. They c

Germany - Optocore has announced the release of the DD4MR-FX and DD2FR-FX dual MADI, video and data network devices.

Following on from the release of the DD32R interface last Autumn, these two 1RU products have been designed for compatibility with Optocore's new Cat 5-based SANE platform, allowing up to 256 channels over Cat 5. The existing DD4ME and DD2FE MADI devices have thus been re-engineered to function within this environment, and include RJ45 SANE network connectivity, while the optical port upgrade (to 2Gbit LC SPF's) allows for simple user exchangeable single or multimode fibre transceivers.

The expanded capacity provides each ring with the capability of carrying up to an unprecedented 1024 audio channels over a 2 Gbit network, and at the same time create cost-effective copper based, 24 ID sub network rings from any of the 24 devices that can appear on the prime fibr

USA / UK - Chauvet has announced the debut a new family of products - SlimPAR Pro. This new series will be available in three styles: variable white (VW), red/green/blue/amber (RGBA) and tri-colored (Tri) LEDs.

All three are high-power LED wash lights are flicker free - making them a video-friendly choice - and housed in rugged cases. The fixtures fill a small footprint - just over 279.4mm high, under 254mm wide and only 88.89mm deep - and have hanging brackets which double as a floor stands. The cast alluminium housing protects them from the rigours of the road and helps dissipate heat. The cost-effective line also features locking IEC connectors for power, LED control displays for easy addressing and access to functions, and multiple dimming curves for smoother dimming no matter what controller is used, says the company.

The LED-fitted wash lights emit very little heat and h

USA - Elation Professional has introduced the Antari F-3 Fazer. This new DMX-compatible 800W water-based dry fog machine comes integrated in its own steel flight case. The F-3 Fazer's case design also makes it easily stackable, so it can be packed up and transported with no fuss and hassle - and ready to roll anytime the show goes on the road, says the company.

Featuring Antari's pump system, it produces "a fine, dry fog with minimal fluid consumption". For example, just one liter of fog liquid will provide five hours of continuous fogging, so each bottle of fluid lasts longer and less time is spent re-filling the machine.

"The Antari F-3 Fazer is an advanced water-based dry fog machine that's ideal for a variety of applications," said Eric Loader, director of sales for Elation Professional, the exclusive North American distributor for Antari products. &quo

USA - Positioned as "the digital mixing solution for all sizes of sound company or user", the Soundcraft Si Compact Series was launched at NAMM 2011.

At the show Keith, Watson, Harman's marketing director for mixers said, "We've had a fantastic reaction to the 24 fader model launched at PLASA in September. Being 19" rack mounted, the 16 is our response to massive demand from our clients in live sound including Houses of Worship, installed systems, theatres and corporate events."

With full DSP functionality built-in to a small-footprint chassis, the Si Compact range provides up to 40 inputs to mix in three frame sizes. Motorised faders with Soundcraft FaderGlow operate on two layers, but the main difference from similarly priced mixers is the provision of a full encoder set for all the functions on a channel, from input gain through EQ and dynamics to b

UK - XTA has introduced the DP548 Dynamic Audio Processor. "You can think of the DP548 as 'a DP448 on steroids', but that only paints part of the picture," says XTA sales & marketing director, Bill Woods. "Think of a standard DP448 - fully loaded with a 28-band EQ, eight parametric EQs and delay on every input; high pass, low pass, nine parametric EQs and delay, plus a combination of two limiters, including the look-ahead "D-Max" limiter on each output.

"Then add three bands of Dynamic EQ on every input, a variable knee compressor on every output with full control over ratio, threshold, attack and release times. On top of all that, include full matrix mixing of any input to any output or mix of outputs and provide memory recallable dynamic EQ for the first time via AudioCore, and that is the power and potential of the DP548."

UK - Blackbox Recorder manufacturer JoeCo has just released the latest software update (V2.1) for its 24-track live recorder. The update includes a number of significant new features that focus on increased safety and flexibility, says the company.

A major implementation is the new Safe 'n' Sound record recovery feature that enables recorded audio files to be recovered after a sudden accidental loss of power, for example after tripping over cables, pulling out power or USB cables, or even forgetting to stop recording before powering off the system. All recorded data can be recovered including song splits, song names and track names. The recorded files will also still be split up into smaller bite-sized pieces that some workstations rely on when importing.

Once power is re-applied to the unit, the new software analyses the disk and performs all the necessary recovery procedures

The Netherlands - ISE 2011 sees LED screen manufacturer Lighthouse Technologies exhibiting its latest panels for the installation and rental markets.

Two panels for the permanent installation market are the Impact 12 and Impact 16 - respectively 12mm and 16mm pixel pitch. The new panels boast 6000 nits of brightness, making them suitable for any situation with high intensity ambient light, says the company.

Both panels feature larger panel size for quick installation - a benefit for applications such as roadside advertising where installation time is limited and the sports market - are IP65 rated and offer both front and rear access and an easy release IM structure for ease of maintenance - intelligent IM design allows superior flatness - the use of the first outdoor SMD LED chip.

In addition, Impact 12 and Impact 16 are M5 ready to allow remote diagnostics with the added be
