Inaugurated in 1955 as a multipurpose facility, the Stadio Adriatico has hosted several matches of the Italian National Football Team and is the main stadium of Pescara. It is currently a CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) sports centre.
Renovation works, which ended last May, were carried out in order to enlarge, restyle and modernise the facility in preparation for the 16th edition of the Mediterranean Games.
After completion of the works, which included a 15m euro allocation to ensure standards compliance, the stadium has now an all-seater capacity of 25.000. The Majella Stand is now covered and an air-conditioned VIP lounge, a new press stand and an area reserved for the Stadium Security Coordination Group (G.O.S.) have been created.
Proel designed and installed a new PA system, which also included Turbosound products, and an EN 60849 standards compliant audio evacuation system provided by its AVL Systems division. EVR Media, a Proel Group company, provided an external fixed maxi screen to reproduce images from the stadium.
The evacuation system chosen was the new Proel EV PRO4, directly interfaced to fire detection equipment, with sensors located in various strategic areas of the facility. The system's rack-mount central unit, positioned in the mechanical room, controls the monitored paging stations broadcasting announcements or pre-recorded evacuation messages. Each facility area is equipped with EVAC speakers with redundant connections (A + B lines). The system also features microphone stations for commentators and allows for background music control.
The video surveillance systems used in the GOS Central Operating Room and in the Press Room employ black Turbosound IMPACT 65T monitor loudspeakers.
The Proel Group company EVR Media provided an outdoor 45m2 ACRONN (Proel's proprietary brand) LED display (25mm virtual 12.5mm), mounted on a 25m-high supporting structure. EVR Media also installed a 45m2 Panasonic screen used on the Inauguration Day of the Games.
"The companies of the Proel Group joined forces for this project at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara, which required reliable systems and highly specialised skills, necessary to face a highly topical issue," said Fabrizio Sorbi, Proel Group chairman."The system designed and installed by Proel complies with the new safety regulations for public venues, requiring the building occupants to be immediately informed in the event of fire or other emergency situations, to ensure an efficient and orderly evacuation through the escape routes specified by the relevant authorities."
