UK - At a specially convened meeting of the Institute of Sound and Communications Engineers (SCE) held at the PLASA 2006 Exhibition, several schemes were launched, primarily to strengthen the professionalism of the members of the Institute.

The first scheme will see the labelling of equipment by ISCE members so that customers will be safe in the knowledge that their system has been installed by a qualified bona fide company. The second initiative involves the training of technicians in the techniques and effectiveness of induction loop technology, ensuring that installed systems work to their maximum effectiveness.

Complementary to this, the Institute has launched a Do It Yourself test instrument project for those engineers involved in the provision and maintenance of sound reinforcement and induction loop systems. In the experience of the Institute too many induction loop systems, in particular, are being installed by people who have little or no idea of how to install a loop system, let alone test its effectiveness.

President David Hopkins commented, "The ISCE is going from strength to strength, and gratefully acknowledges the contributions made by supporting members, council members and the administration. Its status in the industry is growing all the time, and these initiatives will speed up that process."
