Two of the Pyramix systems are destined for use in Peel Media's new studios at MediaCityUK, while the third will be used in the new orchestral hall designed for the Manchester-based BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, which is scheduled to open at the MediaCityUK complex in 2011. All three Pyramixes are Masscore 128 systems, capable of handling up to 128 tracks of audio input or output simultaneously, and allowing full 64-track recording, editing and processing of high-resolution audio at rates of up to 192kHz. Isis edit controllers, MADI interfacing, dual 22-inch TFT monitors and 1.5-Terabyte RAID arrays were also supplied with each of the three systems.
According to TSL's Audio applications manager, Martin Dyster, "The fact that BBC Studios at Television Centre, BBC Wales and BBC Scotland had all chosen Pyramix as their multichannel audio recording and editing platform made it a natural choice for the Studio Block at MediaCityUK. For ease of operation and integration with the Calrec and Studer Systems in both TV Production and Music Recording Studios, we chose MADI connectivity. The two Pyramix systems destined for use in TV Production may be assigned to any of the seven studios on an ad-hoc basis, and the choice of MADI makes it a very straightforward task to move the hardware between Sound Control Rooms as customer demand dictates."
Paul Mortimer, eMerging co-founder, comments, "This Pyramix installation at MediaCityUK is the latest of several we have carried out in accordance with BBC requirements, all to a similar high level of specification. Pyramix integrates well with MADI and thereby with the other equipment destined for the Peel Media studios, making for a high-throughput workflow at Masscore-enhanced speeds and to Pyramix's highly regarded levels of quality."
