The company's Korean distributor, Sama ProSound, provided a matched, end-to-end solution, using advanced QSC line array technology, amplifier and network audio control.
The Korean version of the musical is co-production between OD Musical Company, headed by Shin Chun-soo, and American producer John F. Breglio.
To match the importance of the occasion, Sama ProSound supplied a WideLine-8 system comprising 12 x WideLine 3082 enclosures, four WL212-sw and two WL218-sw subs - powered by 12 of QSC's new PL380 and four PL340 PowerLight 3 amplifiers, with a DSP322ua digital network device. The rig was under the management of QSC Audio's dedicated SC28 system controller.
Because of the space layout, the speakers were installed in stacks at the left/right side of the stage. Seong-Min Kim, the project leader of Sound Valley, the production company charged with providing sound for this event, explained why he had chosen a QSC solution. "As WideLine-8 has a wide dispersion angle, it is perfect for venues such as this event hall, with its incredible width. Also, its compact size, coupled with clear and spectacular sound, make this product ideal for use by rental companies."
"The sponsorship for this Dreamgirls production briefing and casting announcement turned out to be a good opportunity to let the superiority of QSC audio systems become known to field sound engineers," said Sama ProSound's engineering manager, Carl Park.
The new touring production of Dreamgirls is eventually scheduled for a US national tour before arriving on Broadway in 2011, but in the meantime the tour will open in Korea in February 2009.
