Three projection units will display images onto the 12m by 3m screen. Quadrant estimate that it will take up to 18 hours to install the equipment. "We had been providing AV support for this particular client's events for about six years and each year we try to make our sets bigger and better than the last," says Quadrant's events manager, Mark Oakland: "The decision to use what we believe to be the largest ever curved projection screen in the country was to maximize the impact of the presentations in such a large room."
The rear projection screen, which will appear to be free-floating when erected, will have three Sanyo XF45 10,000 lumen projectors behind it. Images can be split three ways using Analog Way Graphic II switchers and with edge blend technology to provide contiguous images and create the illusion of one single image to the audience.
"The kit is really flexible and can use images from up to 15 sources from PC-based output to pre-recorded or live video," says Oakland. "A background image is provided through a three-head computer to ensure that we retain the quality of images and making it possible to place multiple images over the screen simultaneously. The whole set can then be controlled either manually or pre-programmed for more complex mixes."
