Showing a similar trend, Renkus-Heinz introduced the SCA-16 'Steerable Column Array' with its 16 x 4" drivers mounted in vertical line array fashion. It has 16 channels of DSP and 16 x 50W of Class D amplification. "These elements are finally able to combine to focus sound in highly reverberant spaces, like a cathedral, for example," said CEO Ralph Heinz. Also new are the TRX-42 Stair Step, DRS18-2 Sub, PN-PNX151M/9 (below, left) and PM121M/12S monitor loudspeakers.

In the same demo suite, the developers of EASE electro-acoustic room simulator software showed EASERA, a measurement platform that also incorporates Time Domain Spectrometry tools. In other words, where EASE allows you to simulate what happens, EASERA allows you to measure the results - so as well as being useful to live sound engineers and installation contractors, it's a scientific platform for acousticians and physicists to delve more deeply into room acoustics.

"It incorporates TDS, MLSSA, dual-channel FMT - all the current measurement platforms under one roof," Heinz added. "There are arguments about which is the most accurate, but actually they all have their optimum applications and limitations. This program gives you the choice." Renkus-Heinz is the worldwide distributor of EASE and EASERA, the output of German pioneer Dr Wolfgang Ahnert and his two companies Acoustic Design Ahnert (ADA) and Software Design Ahnert (SDA). Ahnert himself, in fact, presided over an official Exhibitor Seminar on the second day of the show, entitled 'EASERA: A Modern Measurement Program'.
