"We've been looking into LED fixtures for some time," said Williams. "Following the technology over the past few years, manufacturers have done a great job pushing it further. With the quality of products available in the market, now is definitely the right time to invest in LED."
Light quality and versatility were high on the list of requirements but matching new products of different sources with the existing lighting rig would be essential to a complete solution. Of course the best way to understand a lantern's look and functionality is to see it in action. Williams was able to test several sources and models in theatre-like conditions at White Light's demo facility in South West London.
For the final lighting solution, White Light provided more than 180 new lighting fixtures to the Royal Court Theatre with a mix of LED and tungsten sources including a ETC Source Four LED Series 2 profiles, ETC Source Four profiles (tungsten), and ETC Source Four Fresnels (tungsten).
White Light also provided dimming equipment from manufacturer Avolites as well as networking accessories and cabling. "Working with White Light on this project has been fantastic," said Williams. "Antony Vine's attention to detail and professionalism made this an exceptionally smooth process."
The new equipment was delivered in time for the start of the 2014 - 2015 season where lighting designers Peter Mumford and James Farcombe were the first to use LED lighting in the Royal Court Theatre's upstairs and downstairs venues, respectively. New productions The Wolf From the Door and Teh Internet is Serious Business are now playing at The Royal Court Theatre - each utilising the venue's new equipment. The Royal Court's current season runs now through May 2015.
