Under the terms of the new arrangement, Røde will be including patented Lyre technology with selected microphones, beginning with the popular VideoMic range, designed for use with camcorders and video-capable DSLRs. All future Røde microphones that include Rycote's technology will be prominently branded 'Rycote Onboard' on their packaging and other marketing materials.
The Lyre is a non-elasticated suspension web composed of a hard-wearing thermoplastic, Hytrel, and is markedly more effective at acoustically decoupling microphones from unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than elasticated suspensions. Since 2008 the world-patented Lyre design has featured in many successful Rycote and OEM products aimed at broadcast and film applications, as well as in popular suspensions for the pro audio/MI and video production markets, including products aimed at video production on DSLR cameras.
Commenting on the deal between the two companies, Peter Freedman, Røde's founder and managing director, said, "The Rycote Lyre is absolutely the world's best microphone shock-mounting solution. This strategic alliance with Rycote is an incredible opportunity for both companies to push the boundaries of product innovation and extend their reach into the consumer and professional audio markets. I look forward to a long and very successful future for Røde microphones and accessories that incorporate Lyre-based suspension solutions."
Simon Davies, managing director of Rycote added, "We are truly delighted to be working together with the great team at Røde. Our core strategy has always been the design and production of performance-enhancing products to the professional microphone user. So when the opportunity arose of working closely with one of the most respected microphone manufacturers in the world, we welcomed it. We are looking forward to working with Røde for many years, and helping provide their customers with the best microphone suspension technology available."
Rycote is exhibiting at NAMM 2013 this week (#6898 in Hall A)
