Harvey's experience covers the architectural, theatrical and entertainment industries, working with lighting, video, projection and special effects projects on a wide range of applications.
Said Backstage Academy's Sara Gleadhall, "Shannon Harvey is a huge asset to the course and brings with him a wealth of knowledge on video and lighting system design as well as a unique creative vision which means he is an all-round inspiration for the students.
"Entertainment technology is evolving so rapidly that we need to draw upon the industry's best brains to teach students so that we can deliver skilled graduates that meet the needs of employers.
"We are very lucky to have him on board and think he will do wonders for the development and longevity of this course."
Harvey, who still runs his consultancy company Aspect Unlimited, said of his new position, "I have always enjoyed teaching and this course seemed to fit my skills fairly well. I think it's important for the students to have someone working with them who is actively engaged in the industry."
