All bands within the EMEA region - Europe, Middle East and Africa - irrespective of genre can participate. All they have to do is upload a band profile in English and an accompanying YouTube video to prove their live performance skills. In addition to receiving Shure gear worth 5,000 Euro, the winning band will perform at one of the world's most famous festivals, the Montreux Jazz Festival. Plus, a professional video crew will be present to film the entire Montreux performance, a copy of which will be provided to the winning band as a memento.
A live performance demands a great deal of any artist. There is no chance to re-record anything, to tweak the audio or to give it a second try if someone misses their cue. Everything must work flawlessly since the only job a band has to fulfill onstage is: to entertain its audience. Ever since the beginning of rock'n'roll Shure has stood at the forefront of every stage, providing musicians of all genres with high-quality, reliable wired and wireless microphones for their performance.
Undoubtedly one of the most famous microphones of all time for live performances is the SM58, a microphone celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Live settings are sometimes unpredictable, and voices differ a huge amount, - the SM58 has proven time and time again that it can cope with anything that is thrown at it.
To make the 2016 band contest a real challenge, Shure has added a crucial requirement which participating bands must fulfill: They must really be a live band. And to prove they are, the registration requires a YouTube video showing the band performing live onstage. This stage can be anything from a small club cellar to a hall, as long the performance has been captured live.
The application process is straightforward. Any band wishing to participate only need to register at call-for-legends.eu, upload a short description of their band followed by the aforementioned live video. The application phase runs until 22 December. Only bands earning at least 50 votes from the community are qualified to make it onto the shortlist which will be sent to the panel. The panel of judges who will then select the overall winners consists of UK indie band Blossoms, the Montreux Jazz Festival and Shure.
The panel will select the three overall winners in January 2017. The second and third placed will take away Shure gear worth 3.000 and 1.000 Euro respectively.
