There's also news as far as performances are concerned. The regulation 10-minute performances will be divided into two parts: the first five minutes of audio testing will be entirely dedicated to a piece of music recorded specially for Sound Power, using sessions from the new Sunlightsquare nu-jazz project, recorded at the legendary Avatar Studio in New York. This, say the organizers is a particularly innovative choice that allows the audio systems to be tested with sounds very similar to those of the live music events for which the rigs participating in Sound Power were designed. All the data regarding the mix, done specifically for the event, will be stored in the event's new generation digital audio console, in order to enable listeners to directly compare the systems' performance on individual instruments and voices. The choice of CD tracks used from the remaining five minutes of the performance will be left to manufacturers, to demonstrate the characteristics of their respective systems.
As usual, the Sound Power area will be equipped with two free-standing scaffold towers fitted with motors able to raise and position the loudspeaker enclosures as required. There will also be a central video screen to display technical information and images during the performances.
Sound Power performances, programmed by the event's coordinator, Toni Soddu, will begin at 12 noon and end at 6pm every day at SIB.
