SGM's Ermanno Tontini & Siyan's Bryan Leitch
UK - Leading UK lighting rental house Siyan was the first is the UK to showcase the new Italian manufactured SGM Giotto Spot 400 CMY moving light fixtures. They were in action on the Princes Trust Urban Music Festival held at Earls Court. It was the first such event in the UK and the star-studded line up included Jay-Z, Beyonce, Jamelia, The Streets, Roots Manuva, Alicia Keys, Dizzee Rascal, Lemar and many more.

The deal to make the Italian brand's new fixtures available to Siyan came via a deal with SGM's UK distributor Lightfactor, as Siyan's Bryan Leitch was keen to put the lights through their paces. The sold out event took over the whole of the Earls Court complex, Leitch designed an overall rig to illuminate both for the live event and for the TV, incorporating a large main stage in Earls Court 1, the Battle stage in the same room - 'behind' the FOH position, and extensive audience lighting.

The show was recorded for broadcast and DVD by Done and Dusted. Siyan's programmer and desk operator Ewan McRobb worked closely with TV lighting director Gurdip Mahal and Leitch on developing a fast-moving light show where the action on the two stages 'flip-flopped' at lightening quick speed. On the main stage - with set designed by Vinnie Tackner - in addition to the new CMY Giottos, Leitch used 20 SGM Giotto 400 Spots and 20 of the Wash versions as his primary moving light fixtures. Another four Giottos were used on top of four vertical onstage towers, and eight SGM Giotto 400 Zoom Spots lit the sides of the Battle stage.

Leitch has been a fan of SGM for some time. Siyan own a large inventory of Giotto 400 fixtures and SGM Victory II scanners that are used constantly and extensively on all its tours and events. Leitch himself has used Giotto 400s on Coldplay for the last two years. He comments on the 400 CMYs: "They are absolutely brilliant moving lights, specially with the full colour mixing facilities, and we are fully committed to the SGM brand." He added that both Lightfactor and SGM themselves have offered excellent service and support which "couldn't have been better."

The Giotto Spot 400 CMY is designed exactly for this type of application. It offers features including a 400W hot re-strike MSR lamp, an 11-22° motorized zoom; advanced CMY colour generation system, colour wheel with six colours and white, two rotating, indexable gobo wheels and one animation wheel, linear iris, frost and CTO filter, a rotating prism, electronic ballast and silent operation and cooling. The fixture's light-weight and fast-lock hanging clamps ensure easy transportation and smooth rigging by one person.
