The talented individuals have earned their place on SLX’s Lighting Programme and will shortly begin to expand networks, gain hands-on experience, and expand knowledge within the field of lighting.
The students comprising the 2023/24 Lighting Programme cohort are: Tom Barge (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School), Nancy Straham (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School), Sophie Schmidt (Guildford School of Acting), Jamie Burke (The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and James Callis (Guildhall School of Music and Drama).
During the programme, the selected students will have the opportunity to work alongside SLX's experienced team, participate in workshops, and gain practical on-site knowledge that will serve as a foundation for their future careers. Additionally, the Lighting Programme will serve as a gateway for its students to expand its professional networks by forging connections with a diverse array of manufacturers, distributors, and industry experts.
Under the expert guidance of SLX's business development manager, Ruari Cormack, and dry hire manager, Katy Lowe, SLX is committed to delivering an immersive and enriching experience. This experience will not only bolster the students' skill sets but also instil the confidence required to excel in the world of lighting.
"Our goal is to equip the next generation of lighting technicians and designers with the expertise and an indispensable network of industry contacts needed to thrive. We understand that gaining the right experience to seamlessly transition into a professional role is challenging,” says Katy Lowe.
“Through the Lighting Programme, we’re empowering students with the confidence to overcome these challenges, and it's truly exciting to witness. Stay connected with us for updates as we share more about the students and their journey in the weeks, months, and years ahead.”
