"We bought these because we needed a small, fast, profile unit with a good stand-alone protocol that's robustly built and easy to maintain for the hire market," explains Blinding Light's Paddy Stacey.
The SmartMAC is designed for hotel, museum and exhibition work with its low power requirements and silent operation due to having no cooling fan. "The 150 Watt bulb is seriously bright and the gobo selection is extremely good for dance floor and mood lighting," continues Stacey, adding that the indexable gobo wheel is handy for applications like the projection of corporate logos and branding.
Blinding Light's first batch of SmartMACs are white, so they can be utilised for shows and events where aesthetics and appearance are a key element. This fits perfectly with their current range of work, which includes corporative events, parties, live performance, awards shows and product launches.
The new fixtures have already been in action on four events since they were delivered last week, and are proving highly versatile.
On HMS President in London, they were used for a party where their small size and low power consumption proved a great bonus; at the Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane, London, they were used to dress a hotel foyer for a corporate event, plugged into local power and run in stand-alone mode for beaming gobos around the space. They were also used for a VIP restaurant party in Bristol, rigged to the roof beams of the venue.
Blinding Light has also made up a series of 5ft white plinths to which the SmartMACs can be rapidly attached and the plinths then deployed around a band, stage or dancefloor - for instant illuminative impact.
