China - SONO, a company specializing in event engineering projects, has chosen Barco to be its visualization partner for the Spanish Pavilion during the Shanghai World Expo 2010. The Spanish Pavilion extends over three rooms, each one directed by a leading Spanish filmmaker. A total of 47 Barco projectors help the design team to give visitors an impression about Spanish history, modern life and future dreams.

Inspired by the general theme of the Expo, Better City - Better Life, Spain asked their leading directors to work out the themes inside the Spanish Pavilion. The area is organised in three rooms. SONO was asked for the technical project design and implementation. They decided to use Barco's series of CLM projectors to project filmic images on the various screens. The CLM projectors are compact single-chip DLP projectors with 10,000 or 8,000 lumens light output that deliver high quality video and graphic images.

Francesc Sabata from SONO comments, "For the visual realisation of the design, we completely relied on Barco technology. The CLM projectors are the best choice for this project. We use them on a regular basis and they have a price performance ratio like no other projector on the market."

The first room, designed by Bigas Luna, is called Origin and represents Spanish passion. It shows visitors the unique features of the Spanish DNA. This room has 19 Barco CLM R10+ projecting on two curved screens, each about 50m long and 5m high.

The second area, Ciudades by Basilio Martín Patino, consists of five rectangular, different sized screens and 25 CLM HD8 projectors. The movies are a combination of archive footage and new filming to paint a portrait of contemporary urban life in Spain.

To end, the Spanish Pavilion closes with a dream. The final room, themed Hijos, shows the future as seen by filmmaker Isabel Coixet and is a place for hope and promise of a better world. This room uses 3 CLM R10+ projecting on curved screens and show images of a baby's dreams for the future.

"The Spanish Pavilion was a true technical challenge, but we could always turn to Barco for assistance", says Francesc Sabata from SONO. "We started working on the project in 2008 and over time, we conducted a lot of tests for which Barco always collaborated. They provided equipment and product engineers to help us out with all our questions."
