For Lienard, the addition of a D1 to his console stock was the logical step to take. "You can customise the D1 very easily to suit your requirements for a particular show or event," explains Lienard. "It reduces the need for outboard equipment, and consequently space - a real bonus at front of house and during transportation - because the console has such excellent internal effects processing it's not necessary to carry extra racks with you. It has the added advantage that all DiGiCo consoles are compatible with each other, so we can take files from our D1 and import them straight into the D5, and vice versa. Plus the ergonomic design means you can see every channel you want, and with the practicality of the various sections and screens, everything's immediately accessible."
Lienard has already put the D1 to good use at a recent corporate event, an application which he feels it is ideally suited to, and it will be put through its paces again later this summer at Bryn Terfel's Feanol Festival in Wales. "There's plenty of opportunity to use the D1," concludes Lienard. "In addition to Bryn Fest, it will be going out for Kiri Te Kanawa at the beginning of July and then again for the BBC's Test The Nation programme."
