USA - Positioned as "the digital mixing solution for all sizes of sound company or user", the Soundcraft Si Compact Series was launched at NAMM 2011.

At the show Keith, Watson, Harman's marketing director for mixers said, "We've had a fantastic reaction to the 24 fader model launched at PLASA in September. Being 19" rack mounted, the 16 is our response to massive demand from our clients in live sound including Houses of Worship, installed systems, theatres and corporate events."

With full DSP functionality built-in to a small-footprint chassis, the Si Compact range provides up to 40 inputs to mix in three frame sizes. Motorised faders with Soundcraft FaderGlow operate on two layers, but the main difference from similarly priced mixers is the provision of a full encoder set for all the functions on a channel, from input gain through EQ and dynamics to b

UK - XTA has introduced the DP548 Dynamic Audio Processor. "You can think of the DP548 as 'a DP448 on steroids', but that only paints part of the picture," says XTA sales & marketing director, Bill Woods. "Think of a standard DP448 - fully loaded with a 28-band EQ, eight parametric EQs and delay on every input; high pass, low pass, nine parametric EQs and delay, plus a combination of two limiters, including the look-ahead "D-Max" limiter on each output.

"Then add three bands of Dynamic EQ on every input, a variable knee compressor on every output with full control over ratio, threshold, attack and release times. On top of all that, include full matrix mixing of any input to any output or mix of outputs and provide memory recallable dynamic EQ for the first time via AudioCore, and that is the power and potential of the DP548."

Canada - The University of Lethbridge in Alberta recently installed an Aviom Pro16 Personal Mixing System, to serve a multitude of functions for the school including music recording, theatre production and traditional campus events. Primarily purchased to support the University's new educational and commercial studio, the A-16II Personal Mixers are also included in the curriculum for the school's new Bachelor of Music in Digital Audio Arts programme.

The Aviom Personal Mixers afford students the ability to quickly and easily create their own cue mixes from content provided by an SSL Duality Console. Because the A-16IIs simplify the job of monitor mixing, they allow the production students to place their full attention on recording procedures.

"The Aviom Personal Mixers take away the need for beginner students to worry about monitor mixes, giving them time to focus on othe

Paraguay - After two and a half years of planning and trials, a Nexo Geo T line array has been commissioned in one of the largest churches in Latin America. Geo T's arrival in the 14,000-capacity Centro Familiar de Adoración in Asunción is the final chapter in a story that began with Oasis.

Alberto Martinez is the manager of the sound team at the Centro Familiar de Adoración. Some years ago he was in the USA, where he heard a Nexo Geo T system running at full throttle on a concert by Oasis, and apparently was so impressed that he accepted an invitation to a demo in Argentina. Meeting with Nexo's LatAm team there convinced him that these loudspeakers were the right choice for the Asunción church project.

Working closely with Nexo's specialist installation engineers, the church's sound team explored all the design configurations thoroughly, not just through software predicti

UK - The big freeze in December, with snow and ice and sub-Arctic temperatures created problems for outdoor event organisers. Down at Wakehurst Place in Sussex, the country estate of Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens, it was touch-and-go for Show Hire's Nick Chubb and his EV ZX3 system - would both of them survive an outdoor concert in -7C?

Wakehurst Place, the National Trust's most visited property, is famed for its festive Carols which usually attract 3,000 people to a service in front of the largest Christmas tree in the UK. For Nick Chubb, the first alarm bells rang when he had to push his van the last few yards of a 40-mile journey that had taken nearly five hours.

"With temperatures plummeting to -7C, I was concerned for the loudspeakers, wondering at what temperature the rubber would freeze up completely. But they performed superbly which freed me up to be concerned for

Europe - With the new firmware update for its wireless monitoring systems, Sennheiser now offers engineer mode. With this function, monitor engineers can listen to the various mixes for a band with their bodypack receiver and, if necessary, make quick changes on the mixing desk. The update for the evolution wireless ew 300 IEM G3 and 2000 IEM systems can now be downloaded free of charge from the Sennheiser website.

The engineer mode gives sound engineers more control options - they can now hear the monitor mix exactly how the artists on stage are hearing it and quickly react if during a live performance corrections need to be made to the mix, for example if the guitar signal is too quiet for the bassist.

When in engineer mode, the settings of the musicians' receivers can be transferred via the infra-red interface to the monitor engineer's receiver. Separate information regardi

All recorded data can be recovered including song splits, song names and track names. The recorded files will also still be split up into smaller bite-sized pieces that some workstations rely on when importing.

Once power is re-applied to the unit, the new software analyses the disk and performs all the necessary recovery procedures
