UK - The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, one of the most majestic architectural complexes in London, has installed a powerful sound reinforcement System by Proel.

London Audio, the company in charge of the audio system design, had to choose loudspeakers that could match the style of the historical building. The system configuration includes 15 custom-painted 100V constant voltage EDGE25PW, installed on special purpose-designed pedestals .

The Proel audio system was installed in the Painted Hall, one of the largest reception halls in Europe. France - Loudspeaker manufacturer APG has announced a series of workshops in conjunction with Audio-Technica, to be held across France during 2011. The first of the two-day events will be held in Bordeaux on 1-2 March followed by a second workshop in Rennes on 9-10 March. Further dates will be announced in due course.

The workshops are aimed at all those who are likely to use (or are already using) APG and Audio-Technica equipment in a professional capacity, either within a rental company, installation or elsewhere. UK - The Capstone Building at Liverpool Hope University is a multi-function performance and education facility for its performing arts courses, as well as a base for a range of local music and drama organisations. At its heart is a modern performance hall, with seating for 200 people, which features an Alcons PA system.

Comprising six LR7 and one LR14B per side, the system was designed by Ian Rees of Norwich-based Adrian James Acoustics. Because of the hall's size and configuration - featuring balconies on each side - the Alcons arrays are flown from close to the centre of the stage, splayed out to cover each half of the hall.

UK - Yamaha Music GmbH (UK) has announced the creation of a dedicated Audio Visual Division with effect from March 1st 2011. Ian Galloway is named as divisional director. Previously audio visual sales and marketing activities came under the leadership of Robert Webster who was jointly responsible for the Yamaha keyboard business.

The move signals "a decision and determination to expand Yamaha's UK AV business and is particularly timely as the product range now encompasses a varied range of different categories including Hi-Fi components, system products, home cinema speakers, digital sound projectors, AV receivers and more recently the Desktop Audio products".

UK - The M-48 Live Personal Mixers from the Roland Systems Group are on the road with We Will Rock You which is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a UK tour, and PA rental provider Sonalyst has supplied eight Roland personal monitoring systems, one for each player in the live band.

Sonalyst has supplied this touring production with a high-spec system, the key elements of which are distinguished by their space and weight-saving characteristics. France - Located in the south of Paris, the Stade Sébastien Charléty is an arena with a long history. Since 1939, the 20,000-seater stadium has provided the setting for a wide variety of sporting events.

Last year, the stadium management embarked upon a series of major renovations. As well as an architectural facelift, they were keen for the stadium to receive a powerful sound reinforcement system capable of satisfying a wide variety of tasks. UK - A Midas PRO6 making its touring debut with the Manic Street Preachers so impressed the band's Emmy-award winning engineer Chris Trimby, he has declared it his preferred console above all others. "It'll be my first choice wherever I go now," says Trimby.

UK - The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is recruiting for creative, production, operational and IT staff for the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Last summer, LOCOG announced the appointment of Danny Boyle as artistic director of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, and a team of executive producers led by Steven Daldry to oversee the Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies in 2012.

Germany - Optocore has appointed Mark Davidson as its new international sales & marketing manager, based at the company's HQ in Munich. His global remit will include the EMEA territories, Russia and Pacific Asia.

Davidson, who is multilingual, has enjoyed a distinguished career in network systems for broadcast and live applications, both in North America and Europe. He arrives at Optocore from Advantech Wireless, where he was selling satellite uplink and downlink equipment as well as networking systems.

Glastonbury 2011 - Coldplay have been confirmed as one of the three headliners at this year's Glastonbury Festival in Somerset. The band will play the main Pyramid Stage on Saturday 25 June. Organiser Michael Eavis said, "Coldplay have played such a major part in the festival over the last 10 years or so. This is the triumphant return of a band that everyone here feels part of. They're one of the greatest phenomena to grow from these fields." Coldplay last headlined Glastonbury in 2005 and also topped the bill in 2002, three years after first appearing at the festival. UK - The First Night Riders - a group of motorbike riding, theatre professionals and their friends - will once more don their leathers and helmets to raise much needed funds for The Theatrical Guild (TTG). As 2010, the one-week motorcycle ride is scheduled to visit some of the UK's most exciting theatres, towns and cities. However for added excitement riders will this year visit the Isle of Man TT course and also Stratford Upon Avon, where they will have the privilege of seeing a new production of Macbeth at the regenerated Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

The 2011 ride will rev up and burn off from the National Theatre on 18 June and the event will climax on 25 June at Alexandra Palace.
