The Netherlands - Canford announced a new e-catalogue facility at IBC. The soon to be available service provides customers with all the benefits of both a website and a paper catalogue. It is the first of its kind in the broadcast and pro-audio industry and permits the user to create and post orders and to download and print individual pages and sections of The Source, Canford's 1500 plus page catalogue. The users simply need to have internet access to exploit the innovation.

The new e-catalogue is named THE e-Source and replicates its paper twin, THE Source in its entirety with fully specified product listings and application notes. Once users have identified the product they need, they can add them to a basket in the usual ecommerce way and place the order online, or simply create and save their shopping list ready for placing the order at a more convenient time.

UIK - Martin Audio has provided a major boost to its touring and theatre portfolio, with the successful introduction of the new high-output XD Series at this year's PLASA 2012 in London. Designed principally for live sound, theatre/fixed install and high power stage monitoring, both the XD12 and XD15 combine a full, rich sound and an accurate 80° x 50°

USA - The Owner's Box Sports Bar and Grill at the new Omni Dallas Hotel has become the hot-spot for both intense game-watching and socializing in this sports-centric city. As the name implies, the concept here is to give fans a privileged seat and then pull them into the game-a technological feat accomplished by a total of 72 HDTV screens and powerful surround sound systems incorporating 40 Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeakers.

Walker Engineering of Irving, Tex. provided design assistance and installation for the audio, video, and lighting (AVL) systems, with Kip Kendrick, the company's business development manager for AVL, spearheading conceptual design.

"I'm not a huge sports fan myself," admits Kendrick, "but I love the feeling I get watching a game on my big screen at home with good surround sound. I knew that if we wanted to bring the fans downtown, we had

UK - The awe-inspiring - and completely distinctive - Opening and Closing Ceremonies, which spectacularly book-ended the London 2012 Olympics, were a triumph for the respective artistic directors, Danny Boyle and Kim Gavin.

Described as the most creative yet, to ensure the realisation of these ambitious concepts, the sound and lighting designers were also faced with enormous technical challenges.

Specialising in this scale of event production for more than a decade, Australian company Norwest Productions again teamed up with their UK partners Delta Sound to provide the necessary Optocore fibre signal transport, custom RF solutions and LAN networking. This sophisticated connectivity realised the sound design conceived by fellow Australian Scott Willsallen (of Auditoria) - another with a string of Games Opening/Closing events on his CV - in conjunction with theatre sound designe

Canada - Audio companies are justifiably pleased with every new installation of their products, but US-based Community Professional Loudspeakers is especially proud when its products go beyond long-term anniversaries.

The Community installation at the Duke Point Ferry Terminal at Nanaimo on Vancouver Island has been facing the full force of coastal weather 365 days a year for 15 years. The cluster system, which utilises Community's legendary M4 compression driver on five PC1542M and three PC1564M long-throw, pattern-control horns, was designed by Barry McKinnon of MC Squared System Design Group of Vancouver and installed by Don Crocker and the team at Victoria, BC-based Sound Source & Lightrix.

BC Ferries built the Duke Point Ferry Terminal in 1997. The Duke Point main audio system was designed to broadcast from a single point to avoid signal delays and echoes across its wide

UK - A nexus of performance art, Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) provides a sustaining alternative to the relentless humour of the Fringe. Dance, drama, music, musical drama, and yes, even a little humour, is the breadth of what's available. With such variety, and a furious turnover where shows move in and out on an almost daily basis, it's an exhausting month for the stage crews and technicians.

Yet Tom Zwitserlood, head of sound for the EIF, was heard to say, "For me, if anything, introducing V-Series at the festival has made life easier for us." He's talking about the premier appearance of the d&b audiotechnik V-Series medium size line array in Scotland, in particular its use at the Playhouse theatre, where it has sustained every show that has passed through in the hectic 24 days of the EIF.

Managing director Mark Parker confirmed the order for 12 elements of the powered loudspeakers with RCF's northern sales manager (and TT+ touring specialist), Mick Butler. The order also included four TTS36-A subs - and the AV-Matrix MD stated that this was just the beginning.

Sweden - DM Audio's Martin Audio MLA Compact was quickly in action within two days of being derigged from an RPSO concert - across Stockholm at the Maritime Museum. This time a similarly-configured 12 elements per side rig was fielded at the Vitabergsparken (White Mountains) for the annual Parkteatern Festival (staged by Stockholm City Theatre). UK - CUK Audio launched its dedicated live sector distribution division - CUK Live - at PLASA 2012, based around its three core live sound brands Clair Bros, Powersoft and Cadac.

A leading force in the pro audio installation market, CUK Audio has seen recent significant growth in its live sound business, resulting in the strategic decision to form a dedicated division for live sound and rental clients.

Managing director Stuart Thomson explains, "Our business is built on the high level of support and service we give our customers, and delivering this standard for the live sector now requires a more focused approach. Many distributors claim to service all markets, but one always wins out to the detriment of the others."

Cadac appointed CUK as its UK and distributor at last year's PLASA show, where interest in the iconic mixer company's new product range - particularl

UK - Midas Consoles has presented live audio specialists Britannia Row with a special 'Pushing the Boundaries' award for its work on the Queen's Jubilee Concert earlier in the year.

Midas announced the gong during a pre-PLASA distributor's dinner and then later in the week on the Midas PLASA Stand during the European press launch of the PRO1 and VeniceU.

"The award was made in recognition of Britannia Row's design and application of the largest, most complex network of Midas consoles to date," explains brand manager Richard Ferriday. "The system was used on the hugely demanding Queen's Jubilee Concert where more than 250,000 people packed into The Mall, St. James's Park and at the Queen Victoria Memorial, to watch the stellar line up of bands, who performed in quick succession, as millions more watched around the world on TV."

The nerve centre is the largest RTS professional intercom system for stage management worldwide with six interconnected individual stage-manager systems, and here they were prepared to accept no compromises. For this reason, the Hamburg-based specialist Amptown System Company was charged with the installation.

"The new intercom system had, above all, to guarantee one thing," explains Stefan Thomsen, Amptown System Company's specialist in communications and stage-management systems, "that all those involved in a production would be able to exchange information with each other at any time without any problem."

USA - The Widener University Pride football team has plenty to be proud of: two NCAA Division III National Championships, reaching the semi-finals three more times, and winning more MAC Championships than any other Middle Atlantic Conference team.

Unfortunately, the aging audio system at the University's Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium was not up to the same championship standards. Plagued by long-standing coverage and sound quality issues, the school's athletic director Jack Shafer called on Widener alumnus Art Kalemkarian, who designed a new system based around Community WET and R-Series all-weather loudspeakers.

The system includes six WET Series W2-2W8 loudspeakers covering the home team's bleachers from atop the press box. The visitor seating and the playing field are covered by a pair of R2-52Z long-throw loudspeakers, also located on the press box roof. The powerful R-Serie
