USA - Ultra Music Festival 2015, which took place Friday to Sunday, 27-29 March, drew thousands of music fans to Bayfront Park in downtown Miami, which has hosted the event since 2012.

"We've been doing the Ultra festival for a long time and have become very familiar with what a system needs to be able to do this kind of show right," observes Andre Serafini, founder and president of Beach Sound, the Miami Gardens-based sound reinforcement provider for Ultra over the past decade. "Bayfront Park can be a challenging venue for this kind of music, but the L-Acoustics systems handled it without a problem, and even overcame some of the venue's special challenges."

Those challenges included keeping the sound for each stage contained within its area and avoiding overspill into nearby stages. For the Live Stage, Beach Sound assembled an L-Acoustics K2 sound system w

China - With a lot to show and a lot to say, d&b audiotechnik (China) Ltd took care to focus their product displays at this year's PL+S Guangzhou and at InfoComm Beijing, placing the professional concert systems of J, V and Q-Series together in one area, with the more installation oriented systems from the xS and xA-Series placed discretely elsewhere.

"We chose to differentiate the systems in a clearly visual sense," said Freddie To, director, d&b China, "but with the emphasis firmly on how the many elements of the d&b product range can be integrated in any combination."

Highlights included elements from the xS-Series, the 4S, 5S, 8S and 12S loudspeakers, along with the dedicated 18S-SUB subwoofer. The 4S, 5S and 8S are light weight coaxial 2-way loudspeakers with a 100° conical dispersion, while the larger 12S is a biaxial bass reflex loudspeaker with

Italy - Based on leading edge technology and customer demands, the 18XL1800 subwoofer from FaitalPRO is designed to recreate the very low natural audible frequencies of 20 to 30Hz, and give an intense acoustic performance.

It has a very high mechanical excursion, which is at least one and a half times greater than the other 18" woofers in the FaitalPRO catalog.

With a rated power of 1600 W and declared 3200 W maximum (according to AES standard), it maintains a good operating reserve allowing for optimum performance even in extreme conditions.

It offers 95dB sensitivity and is equipped with two demodulation rings to reduce any unwanted harmonic distortion and modulation of inductance.

Pro Audio division manager of Faital Flavio Naggi said, "Although the new 18XL1800 has an average efficiency of 95 dB and is not exactly suitable for pure horn applications (to empha

UK - Few rental companies have been as progressive as Wigwam in deploying Optocore optical fibre interfaces over the years, and configuring drive racks designed to give their sound engineers a much more 'fuel efficient', elegant and secure ride.

After initially devising the OptoRack data returns system, when Optocore announced the DiGiCo implementation last Autumn, Wigwam wasted no time in building the first multiplexed DiGiCo Fibre Ring systems, allowing a range of DiGiCo mixing consoles and Optocore devices to work seamlessly together.

And when the experienced Dave Bracey, FOH engineer with one of Wigwam's long term accounts, Björk, wanted a more compact, efficient and tourable FOH package, with no single point of failure in the signal flow for this summer's festival shows in the US and Europe, he again turned to Wigwam.

In addition to a large rental inventory of Meyer Sound equipment Pro Audio Systems also installs, sells and supports Meyer Sound products extensively.

In a remarkable coup for both PAS and the PLASA Focus, this is the very first showing of Meyer So

It is the latest chapter in a long relationship that has existed between the two organisations, which has seen the service providers frequently renting sound systems to the hall over the years.

Liverpool Philharmonic's technicians opted for the Vi3000 as part of a complete new audio infrastructure after attending a Soundcraft open day hosted by Adlib. This was followed by an onsite demo which enabled Dave Kay, Adlib

World - Shure Incorporated is celebrating its 90th year as an industry leader in professional audio. The SM57 and SM58®, developed in 1965 and 1966 respectively, remain two of the most pop

Japan - After an extensive renovation that took five years to complete, the historic Himeji Castle's grand reopening ceremony was an event not to be missed.

The renovation of what is considered Japan's most spectacular castle, which is frequently known as Hakuro-jo (White Egret Castle) or Shirasagi-jo (White Heron Castle) because of its brilliant white exterior, began in October 2009. It involved returning the walls to 'the white egret' whilst repairing the kawara tiled roof, and the recreation of the symbolic Shachihoko (Japanese mythological animal) decorating its ridge.

The opening ceremony, held before an invited audience of 1000 people (including government officials and politicians), saw Martin Audio's MLA Compact Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array brought into play, alongside the acrobatic aeroplane team, The Blue Impulse.

- Since India's first Hard Rock Café opened in Mumbai's busy upmarket Worli district about nine years ago, the venue has built up a great following, thanks to its role as a standard-bearer of the brand's successful combination of good food and good music.

More recently, a second Hard Rock Café opened in Andheri (with its 1.5m inhabitants, one of the most vibrant important Mumbai suburbs) and recent changes to the two venues' music policy have been followed by a decision to upgrade the older venue's sound systems, with an Outline rig (the newer HRC, centrally located in the affluent Andheri West district, surrounded by many corporations and movie production houses, was already equipped with the Italian manufacturer's loudspeakers).

Music has always played a key role in the success of Hard Rock Café's venues around the world, and the man behind the mus

UK - UK companies installing energy monitoring systems, such as the MeasureMyEnergy equipment offered by consultancy :entertaining sustainability, can now qualify for upfront financing from the Carbon Trust's Energy Efficiency Financing Scheme.

The scheme, which is run on behalf of the Carbon Trust by Siemens Finance, provides initial funding for the installation, with repayments made over a maximum of five years from the savings generated by working with the equipment.

The MeasureMyEnergy system - already installed at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Studio - utilises sensors on each circuit within a distribution board to log consumption, flag up anomalies and present real-time data via a secure web app.

Companies already working with the system - anecdotally report savings of between 10% and 20% through the ability to target the highest areas of consumption within a buildin

UK - Since it opened its doors (and, indeed, retractable roof) in 1999, Cardiff's Millennium Stadium has hosted myriad high-profile sporting and music events. From special rally stages and speedway races to concerts featuring the likes of U2, The Police and The Rolling Stones, the venue has welcomed them all.

But it's rugby with which the Millennium Stadium is most closely associated - it is, after all, home to the Welsh rugby union team and recently saw two of the Six Nations 2015 matches played out on its turf.

For several years a PreSonus digital mixer has been at the heart of the stadium PA used for the various announcements, commentary and entertainment that go to make up such events. And most recently a new StudioLive 24.4.2AI desk has taken the central role in a system supplied and maintained by Llanelli-based PAI Group and operated by AB Acoustics.
