White Light Hire continues to serve its usual diverse range of productions as it enters the summer season. Perhaps the biggest opening was the new stage adaptation of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium, where this year’s Olivier Award-winning lighting designer Mark Henderson is using an enormous range of equipment from White Light and The Moving Light Company to bring the magic of the film to life. Working with Henderson were production electrician Fraser Hall and moving light programmer Stuart Porter, with a rig that included Source Fours, CXI colour changers, High End Studio Beams, Martin MAC 500s, 600s and PAL1200s and Vari*Lite VL2202s. After rave reviews, the show looks set to run and run.

Henderson moved straight from Chitty to another star-studded project, the play Up for Grabs at the Wyndhams Theatre, which features Madonna in the leading role. He once again selected a rig (slightly smaller this time!) from White Light; this was installed by production electrician Pete Lambert, with Paul Handley serving as production manager.

Other recent West End openings have included The Full Monty at the Price of Wales Theatre, lit by Howell Binkley, Bedroom Farce lit by Paul Pyant, which opened at the Aldwych after a short tour, new productions at the Donmar Warehouse and the Arts Theatre, including Lobby Hero, lit by Rick Fisher; Humble Boy, lit by Paul Pyant, which transferred to the Gielgud from the National Theatre, the Chichester Theatre production of My One And Only, lit by Chris Davey; The Glee Club at the Duchess, lit by Rick Fisher, and the re-mounting of Daisy Pulls It Off at the Lyric Theatre, lit by Brian Harris. Ongoing productions include Art, Chicago, My Fair Lady, Noises Off, Caught in the Net, Taboo, The Play What I Wrote, Kiss Me Kate and many more.

On tour, White Light continues to supply equipment to Joseph, Grease, Sunset Boulevard, Bouncers, A Woman of No Importance and Miss Saigon, these recently joined by new productions of Hobson’s Choice, Misery and Heaven Can Wait - while at the same time providing lighting equipment to a wide range of parties and other events, including the recent BAFTA television awards at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, ongoing projects for Strongbow, various College Summer Balls and the creation of a nightclub exterior location for The Bill.
