The shape and profile of the viewpod was a key design factor and so Stage One faced a major construction challenge to produce a balanced, seamless, 'floating' structure, able to bear a weight of nearly one-and-a-half tonnes, whilst at the same time ensuring it was aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the designers vision.
Stage One rose to the challenge, fulfilling the brief by constructing the pod in steel and then cladding it in ply-wood to a total thickness of 150mm. In order to be able to move the pod from site to site it was built in four sections that could then be flawlessly re-connected on site. The whole structure was finally spray-painted satin white.
In between the two display vehicles is an enclosed central walkway. On one side of the walkway are portholes overlooking the lower car, pinpointing and explaining about specific key aspects of its design. On the other side of the walkway are unique AV tubes, specially designed for this project. The sensor-led AV tubes consist of connecting eye and ear pieces, which feed further detailed information about the car to the public.
Simon Wood, sales and marketing director for Stage One said: "We are proud that we have produced such a smooth, clean structure, especially given the further challenge that our timescales were so short - the whole project (from brief to first installation) was completed in five weeks."
