The Stage Sound Services team with the new DiGiCo D1 Live.
UK - Leading Welsh rental company Stage Sound Services has been putting its new DiGiCo D1 Live console through its paces with a series of demanding productions. Following hot on the heels of the Holocaust Memorial Day event at Cardiff's principal venue, the Wales Millennium Centre, Stage Sound Services provided sound production for the premiere of the amateur production of The Witches of Eastwick, staged by the Orbit Theatre at The New Theatre in Cardiff.

Taking a break from running the company, Stage Sound Services' founder Phil Hurley took on the job of sound operator for the show. He commented on the new acquisition, which was supplied through Autograph Sales in London. "We love the D1 for all sorts of reasons; it's small, it incorporates a lot of processing, it's easy to use, and sounds fantastic!"

For the Witches run, Hurley's setup time was incredibly short; the ability to configure the entire system beforehand (a task given to programmer/operator Andy Collins) on a remote laptop was vital. "We had 60 channels to sort out, and only a four-hour session to get everything right - but we managed. Our reputation has been built on knowledge and experience, and this was a great opportunity for me to gain real understanding of the desk in a high-pressure live environment," added Hurley.

Stage Sound Services' D1 Live is configured with 48 physical inputs, 24 outputs and a full complement of DSP cards to allow up to 96 input channels. Supplier Autograph will be offering cost-effective short-term rental of additional hardware for DiGiCo owners to enable configurations to be varied for individual shows.

Autograph director Mike Mann commented: "We're delighted that Stage Sound Services has invested in DiGiCo - this is the only digital mixing system that is truly modular, which means that wherever the company goes next, they will have a flagship mixing console that will give them a competitive edge."

Autograph Sales is one of the UK's leading pro audio specialists, distributing high-end equipment and systems from Clear-Com, Meyer Sound, DiGiCo, Countryman, Fischer, LDS, EM Acoustics, MC2, Milab, Sennheiser, König & Meyer, TC Electronic, Room Tools, Symphotec, Xilica and other leading manufacturers.
