The new spot platforms were purpose-built in 2002, as prefabricated structures to provide a safe working area for the technicians on the platforms. The custom-built handrails and lifting points make it a quick and easy system to install. The modular systems are highly adaptable and can be increased as required from 8ft in multiples of 4ft sections. On this occasion there were two single spot platforms, one holding four lights and operators and one adapted to carry the amp rack for Wigwam’s PA. Star Rigging also rigged Wigwam’s flown speaker equipment, Vari-Lite’s lighting and all the rigging for the set.
The new spot platforms are ideal for televised shows such as this when increased light on the artist’s face for the live broadcast is required. Star Rigging also provided four 'T - truss' units for the projection equipment, which fix the projector and screen in situ on the ground before they are flown, making it far easier to focus the system and ensure the screen is at 90 degrees to the projector. The next outing for Star Rigging’s platforms will be on Remembrance Sunday at the Royal Albert Hall, where they will also be adapted for use as a platform for members of the SAS to abseil out of the roof.
