The lighting design team comprised seven students, taking their lead from designer Richard G Jones, recently applauded for his work on The Railway Childrenat London's Waterloo station. The brief was to recreate the emotional journey of The Story with lighting as the sole scenic element.
Second-year student and assistant lighting designer for the production, Natalie Davey, specified the PixelLine 110s to work in conjunction with conventional cyc floods already in the school inventory. The 110s were positioned on side booms to wash across the white cycloramic scenery wall where the cyc floods also washed from their positions top and bottom.
Davey approached PixelRange directly with a small budget for the equipment and admits she "did not expect a company to be as helpful as [PixelRange] was. They were truly fantastic! They responded to my email very quickly and were very happy to help, answering all the questions I asked.
"We used the linear, K2 luxeon LED fixtures to create different times of day and atmospheres, they were stunning. We were totally bowled over by the units: the massive LED colour palette we were able to create was second to none. We were able to mix soft pastel colours right the way through to bold deep saturated colours - all just perfect for this show."
She continues, "Working with the PixelLine 110s provided a great opportunity to learn about technologies newer than GSA usually work with - and an experience that will stay with us for some time."
