At Wynmoor Theater, MAVCO is providing engineering, supply and installation of the lighting, sound and cinema systems for the refurbishment of the 900-seat theatre located at Coconut Creek, Florida. Working to a design by TSG Design Solutions, MAVCO’s enormous experience in all three disciplines was a crucial element in gaining the project, offering the main contractor, Dooley & Mack, the advantage of having one supplier handling all the technical systems.
The Wynmoor Theater serves a private gated community just off the Florida Turnpike and, as well as offering both drama and music productions, is also used for lectures and courses, as well as current events. The comprehensive refurbishment, under the project management of MAVCO’s Nick Gibson, is due for completion at the end of September. The project gives the theatre a completely new sound system, including a custom 32-channel Soundcraft K3 mixing console, Peavey DSP audio processing and control systems, Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeakers and microphones from Shure and Audio Technica. Cinema speakers are being supplied by JBL. Lighting control is supplied in the main by ETC, with both Sensor and Unison dimming for stage lighting and house lighting respectively. An Insight 3 control console, with off line editor software, is used with Unison Control for the house lighting and some 50 plus Source Fours, together with Altman floodlights and 6-cell ground cycs and Martin 575W Roboscans.
The new $80m Palm Beach Country Convention Center is due to open in autumn this year. MAVCO has been chosen to provide detailed design, supply and installation services for complete sound reinforcement systems, distributed television network, assistive listening systems, intercom, video conferencing facilities and integrated control systems for the 100,000sq.ft main exhibition hall, the ballroom and 19 meeting rooms.
Although probably best known for its work on cruise ships, MAVCO has always enjoyed a reputation for its land-based work and other current projects include supplying a new sound system in the Commission Chambers for the City of Miami and a new public address and paging system for the USDA Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service at Miami airport.
