The theatre was conceived by legendry Architect Henry Irwin
India - The Gaitey Theatre in Himachal Pradesh, India, has a special look that is worth preserving. This remarkable piece of Victorian-theatre architecture was conceived by legendry Architect Henry Irwin, and symbolises the grandeur of the British colonial period heritage.

After the inception in the year 1887, eminent theatre personalities like Rudyard Kipling, Baden Powel, K.L.Sehgal, Prithviraj Kapoor, Balraj Sahni, and Manohar Singh have taken to the stage of this theatre.

The government of Himachal Pradesh recently restored the 124-year-old historical landmark, which seats 320 people over two floors, and whose main purpose is still for dramatics and other classical and folk cultural activities. However, after the restoration, it was clear that the existing sound system wasn't meeting the demands of this busy theatre, and that a new, state of the art solution was required.

The design team of audio visual specialist M/S Godrej were called upon to recommend the best solution for the important venue, and for this historic venue, they turned to Tannoy.

Mr Haider proposed a solution that utilised digital acoustic beam-steering technology, and in a form that not compromise the aesthetics of the old theatre. The chosen product for the project was Tannoy's QFlex steerable array system. He proposed a solution based around QFlex, keeping in mind the minimum install and architectural requirements for a 124-year-old Heritage building.

Mr Haider said, "We proposed this solution because we knew the quality of Tannoy loudspeaker, and had experience of just how effective QFlex can be in terms of intelligibility. I'm glad to say that the user and performers find it as fantastic system for their performances, as it gives a uniform coverage in the auditorium."

As well as the two QFlex 24s; two VS 18DR subs and two V8 sound reinforcement loudspeakers were also specified and installed to provide complete full range coverage and in-fill where required. The installed audio system was completed by the addition of a Biamp Nexia for signal routing and Yamaha mixing consoles. QSC amplifiers powered the Tannoy V8s and VS subs.
