Bristol-based SLX provided its services to light up 29 Olympic venues in Paris

UK/Paris - A UK-based lighting and events company has defied the odds to become Europe’s leading sporting broadcast lighting business as an Official Supporter of Broadcast Lighting and Rigging for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, despite challenges faced from Brexit and the pandemic.

SLX provided its services to light up 29 outer Paris venues, including the specially built Aquatics Centre throughout the duration of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Such is the scope of this project, SLX has had a dedicated team of 30 people working on the ground in Paris for the last 12 months. It has also opened a 25,000sq.ft space, equivalent to the size of two Olympic swimming pools, to store and supply the multiple venues with lighting, equipment, rigging and cabling to ensure competitors, spectators and media have the best visibility no matter the time of day or weather conditions.

The company also supplied rigging the length of 12.5 times round the athletics track (5km) along with over 2,500 fixtures to provide tailor-made lighting over the 15-day event.

This is not the first time SLX has shown its expertise in showcasing major sporting events, having also been the Official Broadcast Lighting Supplier to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and this summer’s The Hundred - the UK’s five-week, eight venue summer cricket series, among others.

“We are honoured to be part of the Paris 2024 Olympics, a global event that showcases the pinnacle of sporting achievements,” said CEO of SLX Alastair Currie. “Our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional broadcast lighting services that will enhance the viewing experience for millions of spectators around the world.”

SLX has overcome the twin challenges brought about by the pandemic and Brexit when other businesses in the events sector fared less well. It is now on track to achieve £30 million in revenue by 2030.

“This growth also reflects increased investment in emerging new technologies and a commitment to maintaining its status as the highest rated B Corp in its industry sector,” the company says. All SLX delivery vehicles now run on HVO fuel (an alternative to diesel) and over 50% of the firm’s energy at its head office comes from solar sources.
